During the first half of the twentieth century, more pilgrims travelled from the Dutch colonial empire to Mecca than from any other country. In 1872 the Dutch found a consulate in Jeddah in order to safeguard the well-being of the pilgrims.

In this limited edition, only 150 copies available, over sixty photographs show Arabia as Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje and Daniel Van der Meulen saw it in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Ashkenazic community of Curaçao
Jeannette van Ditzhuijzen

A Shtetl under the Sun provides a vivid picture of the emigration of Ashkenazi Jews from especially Poland and Romania to Curaçao since the 1920's.

Though not received with open arms, they quickly acquired a strong economic position on the island. This English edition shows how the tropical Curaçao looked like a small shtetl: a city where many, sometimes only Jews lived.
