Bernard Berendsen
Bernard Berendsen is a member of the Advisory Council on Foreign Relations in the Netherlands. He started his international career at the Central Bank in Sudan in 1969. In 1970 he joined the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East in Bangkok, Thailand.
He completed his PhD thesis at the Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1978 on the subject of regionasl models of trade and development dealing with issues of international trade, economic development and integration. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands in 1975. After various assignments in the Hague he became Director for Africa in 1994, was posted in Jakarta from 1997 until 2000 and became Netherlands ambassador in Taznania before retiring in 2005.
